About Us

Hello, allow us to introduce ourselves…

We are Jarrod and Asten

We are not psychologists or psychiatrists and we do not have PHDs. We are just a young couple trying to make it in life; one of us is late twenties and one just turned the big 3-0, one of us has a business and one of us is a student, we have a mortgage and we have no kids (yet… maybe one day). During the course of our lives we have both been accused of being ‘deep thinkers’. We seem to over-think everything and we both found ourselves to be fretting the small stuff and asking the big questions (Why are we here? What am I doing with my life? Etc). The first question is a mystery…but the second question is a relevant one. What am I doing with my life? What are you doing with your life? If you have ever wondered if you were on the right path—like we often have—or if you have ever wanted to hit your head repeatedly against a brick wall because you are frustrated at your life because you are in a job that you know you are better than or with a partner that isn’t quite right and you know that you could be fitter and healthier and happier and more content… (phew, take a deep breath). Basically, life is a challenge and it is exhausting at times but it is wonderful. We founded this blog not only to give us the opportunity to vent and perhaps get some feedback, but also to share our experiences with you. We hope that it will help other people like us find their way.

About Jarrod

“I’ve been working as a programmer for the majority of the past decade. I worked full time and I did contract work in my spare time to help make ends meet. On top of that I was throwing in a lot of my own time researching and studying to ensure that my skillset remained relevant. I was burning the candle at both ends and it was killing me! I tried my hardest to keep fit and healthy but found that when I was stressed and not sleeping it was hard to get to the gym. Living a hectic life and running on fumes alone was nearly impossible. I was certainly in a rut…something had to give or the next step would likely have been some form of mental breakdown. That’s when I started to shift my priorities towards a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle – something this blog will cover in more detail.”

About Asten

“I knew I wanted to travel the world from a young age and managed to save $18000 by the time I was 18. I then proceeded to spend it all over a four year period of travelling the world. I visited 26 countries in 24 years…and then I turned 25 and thought: ‘what the hell am I going to do with the rest of my life?’ It was a scary thought. People that were my age were getting engaged and buying a house and getting married and popping out babies and I felt so very far behind it all. I thought about what I really wanted to do and started university as a mature age student. I studied English Literature and finished my degree last year. Now I am doing a diploma of education so that I can be a teacher. I have a mortgage and am very happy with the house that we have created. I have a good group of people around me; I love my family and my friends. I am healthy and happy and optimistic about the future. I believe that everyone can get out of a rut if they really want to put in the effort…”
